“Just because God told you you’re going somewhere, doesn’t mean it won’t come with trials, tests, and tribulations.” – Pastor Alexis Christopher Haynes
This Sunday, my Pastor preached an amazing message on the term “trying” and how we shouldn’t try, but rather we should actually take action and press forward. He talked to us about how we as Christians, are constantly letting loose the term, “I’m trying to get better” or “I’m trying to stay away from sin” or plain old “I’m trying.” How in the body of Christ, we are constantly making excuses for ourselves, and not just simply doing. We just leave and put aside our calling and assignments off with the excuse: “I’m trying.” Rather than just simply doing.
You see, when we really want to do something, we’ll do it. It’s practically that simple. If we want to follow God, we will. If we don’t, we won’t. If we want to go to work in the morning, because we know we have bills to pay, we will. If we want to stay faithful to our spouse, to sustain our relationship, we will. The same applies with our relationship with God, if we want to have a relationship with God, we simply will press to as close as we need to get to him. God didn’t hand us over some puzzle, with missing pieces all around the world, he’s given us everything that we need through His Word, and His Holy Spirit. So if we want God, we can have him. But if we truly want God, he must have us also.
“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” – Matthew 11:28-30
In old times, they would yoke the big ox with a little ox, so that the little ox could follow and learn from the big ox, whom was considered his leader. Imagine the big ox being God, and you being the little ox per say. God’s Word tells us to take upon his yoke, for his yoke is easy. The Bible also tells us, that the way of the transgressor is hard (Proverbs 13:15). God wants us to yoke unto Him, and learn of him, watch him, follow him, and see what he’s doing. We are called to be like Christ, and to become more and more like him everyday. We can’t be yoked onto him, and be yoked with the world at the same time. We can’t serve two masters, because we will hate one and love the other. God doesn’t want half of us, he wants all of us. He has called us to know him, and he has called us out of the darkness. If you want to know God and incline a greater relationship with Him, yoke yourself with him, and allow yourself to be freed from the bondage of the world. Make no more excuses and throw no more pity parties for yourself, make up your mind today, and start chasing after him gloriously while you still have the chance.
“It’s easier on the other side.”
“Good judgment wins favor, but the way of the transgressor is hard.” Proverbs 13:15
Many of us say, it’s hard to live for God and give certain things up. We find ourselves constantly falling short, robbing God of his grace and mercy. We also fear pressing through with our relationship with God, because we understand that also brings suffering and trials. (For the afflictions of the righteous are many). But I can certainly promise you, that living for God is far more easier and you won’t regret it. Yes, you will get fought because you’re no longer on the devil’s team in sin, and yes, there are times that are stressful, but the All Knowing, All Mighty, All Powerful God, will be with you the entire time. For this life is but a moment, but eternity is forever. Your love for Christ will lead you to greater things, that our mind can’t comprehend. Today, he wants you. Go after him, I promise you will find him.
Today, God is willing to free you from every addiction, every circumstance that has been troubling you, he is ready to give you a redeemed heart. Turn your “I can’t”‘s to “I will.” Don’t settle to try anymore, rather press forward.
“Finally, my bretheren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness: And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield o ffaith, where with ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God”
